Japanese automaker Toyota continues to develop its line of commercial and utility vehicles, introducing a new version of the Hilux Champ pickup truck, the Super SWB. Its key advantage is its unique compactness and increased maneuverability in urban traffic and tight spaces. This version is positioned as the smallest pickup in the brand's current model lineup, achieved by significantly shortening the wheelbase by 450 millimeters compared to the standard Hilux Champ. The overall length of the vehicle remains 4520 millimeters, while the width and height remain unchanged. The company's engineers focused on improving handling, resulting in the new pickup boasting an exceptionally tight turning radius of just 4.7 meters, allowing it to easily navigate tight parking spaces and complex intersections.
The vehicle's exterior retains the recognizable features of the Hilux Champ family, while adding a number of distinctive features that emphasize its utilitarian focus and affordable price. The package includes practical LED headlights, functional black body trim, unpainted plastic bumpers that are resistant to minor damage, and simple and reliable black steel wheels with a diameter of 14 inches. Despite the shortened wheelbase, the developers managed to maintain a comfortable and spacious cabin for the driver and passenger, as well as provide a significant usable cargo area in the 1,867-millimeter-long cargo bed thanks to the well-thought-out single-cab layout.
The base trim, called the "Attractive Package," offers a wide range of options for everyday use, including standard air conditioning, convenient power front windows and power outside mirrors, a modern USB Type-C port, and a high-quality audio system with two speakers. The interior is finished in durable materials, including practical black fabric, complemented by stylish orange accents on certain elements, creating a striking and memorable contrast. To ensure the necessary traction and reliability in the most challenging conditions, the new model is equipped with a proven two-liter turbodiesel engine, producing 148 horsepower and 343 newton meters of torque. The powertrain is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, transmitting power to the rear axle. The starting price for the new Toyota Hilux Champ Super SWB compact pickup truck in Thailand is 615,000 baht, equivalent to approximately 19,000 US dollars.
