The German carmaker Opel is introducing the updated Grandland, and this version is sure to attract the attention of those following the development of electric vehicles. The Electric Long Range version promises a record-breaking range for the model – nearly seven hundred kilometers. This impressive figure should allay the doubts of practical drivers who frequently travel long distances. This figure was achieved thanks to the installation of a new, high-capacity 97-kilowatt-hour battery, the most powerful in the history of the Grandland electric line.
Under the hood of the new model is an electric motor producing 231 horsepower and 345 Newton-meters of torque. This power is sufficient for confident acceleration and overtaking, and the crossover accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds. The top speed is limited to 170 km/h, which is more than enough for comfortable motorway driving. The engineers are particularly proud of the charging speed. Using a powerful DC charging station, the battery can be charged from zero to 80 percent in just twenty-seven minutes, roughly the time it takes to take a short coffee break.
The engineers worked not only on range but also on comfort. The car features an improved suspension with an adaptive damping system. It constantly adjusts to the road surface, smoothing out bumps and making the ride smooth and comfortable for both driver and passengers. Now, both a bumpy country road and perfect city asphalt will feel equally comfortable.
Safety in the new model has been taken to a modern level. The manufacturer has equipped the crossover with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems that constantly monitor the road conditions, warn of potential hazards, and can intervene a split-second to prevent an accident. The interior has also been significantly upgraded—the driver now has a cutting-edge multimedia system with a large screen, a head-up display, and a convenient wireless smartphone charging slot. Special Intelli-Seats are available for complete comfort on long journeys. The new Opel Grandland Electric Long Range is now available to order at European dealers.
