Audi A7 with 3.0 TFSI engine - expert opinion

Our opinion on the Audi A7 with a 3.0 TFSI engine, especially the facelifted version. This is a very interesting and multifaceted car, which, in our opinion, deserves attention.

Design and appearance:

Grace and elegance: The Audi A7 has always stood out for its coupe-like silhouette, and the facelift only emphasized this feature. Smooth lines, a long hood and a sloping roof line create a very harmonious and sporty image.

Facelift: The facelifted version (since 2015) has new, more aggressive bumpers, an updated Singleframe grille and, of course, the famous optics. Particularly impressive are the matrix headlights, which not only look futuristic, but also provide excellent lighting.

3.0 TFSI Engine:

Power and dynamics: This is one of the main advantages. The 3.0 TFSI engine (with a compressor or turbine, depending on the year of manufacture) provides excellent dynamics. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes less than 6 seconds. The engine is very responsive, traction is available almost from idle speed, which makes driving in the city and on the highway very comfortable and dynamic.

Reliability:

In general, this engine is considered quite reliable, but there are some known "sores" that are worth knowing about:

  • Oil consumption: Some owners complain of increased oil consumption, which may be due to wear of piston rings or valve stem seals.
  • Timing chain problems: Over time, the chain can stretch, which requires an expensive replacement.
  • Leaks: Oil and coolant leaks are possible, especially from under the oil pan or in the cylinder block camber.

Transmission (S tronic/quattro):

S tronic (DSG): Most A7s with this engine are equipped with a 7-speed S tronic gearbox. It provides lightning-fast gear shifting and contributes to excellent dynamics. However, like all "robots", it has its own nuances. Problems with the mechatronics or clutch wear are possible, especially with aggressive driving.

Quattro: Audi's signature all-wheel drive provides excellent stability and control in all weather conditions. The car literally "drives like it's on rails".

Interior and technology:

Premium class: The interior of the Audi A7 is a benchmark for quality and ergonomics. Only high-quality materials are used, all parts are perfectly fitted.

Technology: Restyling has brought many modern functions. The virtual cockpit, if installed, looks amazing. The MMI multimedia system with a retractable screen is very convenient and intuitive. It is also worth noting the large number of driver assistance assistants.

Practicality and comfort:

Trunk: Despite the coupe-like silhouette, the A7 is very practical thanks to the liftback trunk lid. The trunk volume is impressive and allows you to transport large-sized items.

Comfort: The car is very comfortable for long trips. Excellent sound insulation, comfortable seats and soft suspension (if without sports settings) make every trip enjoyable.

Conclusion:

The restyled Audi A7 with a 3.0 TFSI engine is certainly one of the most beautiful and technologically advanced cars in its class. It combines sporty dynamics, a luxurious interior and practicality. This is an excellent choice for those looking for a car that stands out from the crowd and is fun to drive.

However, when buying a used copy, it is important to understand that this is a premium class with all the ensuing consequences. The cost of maintenance and spare parts will be high. It is recommended to carefully check the history of the car, carry out diagnostics of the engine and gearbox to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future.
