BMW decided to say goodbye to the current generation of the eighth series in a special way, presenting a limited modification that can arouse interest among collectors and fans of the brand around the world. The company's engineers and designers deliberately emphasized the heritage, linking together the legendary coupe of the nineties and the modern version of the Gran Coupe, thereby showing that the history of the brand remains an integral part of its present. The new product was named M850i Edition M Heritage and was first shown at the prestigious automobile event Monterey Car Week in California, which in itself emphasizes the exclusivity of the project and its focus on connoisseurs of automobile culture. The model symbolizes a kind of bridge between the iconic E31 body and the current generation G15, the life cycle of which is gradually coming to an end, giving way to the upcoming update of the model range.
The main feature of the limited edition was a carefully selected color scheme, returning the public to the aesthetics of the first "eight". The company has once again used five historical shades, each of which is familiar to fans of the brand: bright Bright Red, deep Mauritius Blue metallic, classic Cosmos Black metallic, noble Oxford Green metallic and spectacular Daytona Violet metallic. These colors not only bring back the atmosphere of the nineties, but also give the car a unique charm, especially in combination with the carbon fiber roof decorated with the traditional three-color stripes of the M division. Twenty-inch Orbit Gray wheels with a two-tone finish and the M Sport Professional package with a darkened finish, black calipers and tinted optics form a complete and harmonious look, demonstrating that when developing a limited edition, the designers sought to create harmony between a sporty character and a premium look.
The interior of the car continues the theme of exclusivity and combines retro elements and modern technology. The dashboard, headliner and door panels are made of Alcantara, creating an atmosphere of sporty gloss, and the M seats are finished in Black Full Merino leather with diamond-pattern quilting and Alcantara inserts, complemented by illuminated M logos built right into the headrests. The interior details are filled with references to heritage: three-color stitching, special inscriptions on the door sills and cup holder lid, as well as a plate with a unique number on the center console, emphasizing the limited nature of the release. The trim uses matte carbon, giving the interior a refined look, and almost all possible elements are included in the standard options, including premium Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround acoustics and a set of electronic assistants Driving Assistance Professional, thanks to which the car combines the status of a technological flagship and a traditional coupe, addressed to the roots of the brand.
The technical part remains true to the spirit of BMW. Under the hood is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces an impressive 530 horsepower and 723 Nm of torque. In tandem with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive system, the power unit allows the car to accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, which is an outstanding result for a four-door gran coupe. The cost of the special version in the US market will be $ 130,400, which is about 21 thousand more than the standard M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, but this premium is absolutely justified, since the circulation is limited to only five hundred units. For those who manage to buy this car, we are talking about not just a vehicle, but a genuine collection item that can become the pearl of a private collection in years to come and a clear example of how a company can turn a car into a symbol of its own history.
