American car manufacturer Tesla continues its strategy of expanding its presence in the global market and presents new basic configurations for its most popular models, the Model 3 saloon and Model Y crossover, which have been given the Standard index. The main goal of this move is to further lower the entry threshold for potential buyers who want to own a vehicle of this brand but previously did not have the financial means to do so. The new versions lack a number of options and features that are present in more expensive versions, but the company has retained the key technical characteristics and signature design without significant changes.

From a technical point of view, both new models are equipped with a single electric motor located on the rear axle, with a power output of 300 horsepower, which gives the Model 3 Standard sedan an acceleration time of 5.8 seconds from zero to 100 kilometres per hour, while for the more massive Model Y Standard crossover, this figure is 6.8 seconds. The range for both models is stated at 521 kilometres thanks to a 69 kWh lithium-ion battery, and the maximum speed is electronically limited to 200 kilometres per hour, which is fully consistent with the performance of the higher trim levels. External changes include new 18-inch wheels with a simplified design, as well as a limited palette of three body colours, including Stealth Grey, Pearl White and Black Diamond.

Significant changes have also been made to the interior of the electric vehicles, where engineers have worked hard to optimise production costs. The vegan leather interior trim has been replaced throughout with a combination of fabric and artificial leather, and the centre console has lost its familiar contours and now features a large open storage compartment, reminiscent of the utilitarian solution first used in the design of the Cybertruck pickup. Options such as front seat ventilation and rear seat heating have been removed from the list of available equipment, and instead of an eight-inch touchscreen for second-row passengers, traditional manual deflectors are now installed to regulate airflow in the cabin.

The final list of changes for the Standard trim levels is quite impressive and includes replacing the power steering wheel with a mechanical version, a simplified audio system with a total of seven speakers, the absence of a standard FM/AM radio and a HEPA air filtration system with its much-talked-about biological threat protection mode. The side rear-view mirrors are now folded manually and do not have an auto-dimming function, and the Autosteer automatic steering system has been removed from the software, leaving the driver in full control of the car. The most noticeable external change for the Model Y Standard is the removal of the panoramic glass roof, which has been replaced with a traditional solid roof with a special sound-absorbing coating, as well as the switch to passive suspension dampers instead of adaptive frequency-dependent dampers. The starting price for the Model 3 Standard sedan is now thirty-six thousand nine hundred and ninety US dollars, while buyers will have to pay from thirty-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety dollars for the Model Y Standard crossover.
