South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled a radically upgraded version of the Ioniq 5 N crossover, specially prepared for participation in the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race. The competition, which will be held for the 103rd time, will take place on June 22, 2025 on the famous 12.42-mile (more than 20 km) serpentine, and Hyundai is preparing a truly ambitious attempt to conquer the summit. According to the brand, the new Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak Edition is “the most daring electric sports car project” in the company’s history. The famous American racing driver Rob Walker, who previously became famous for his performances in the Scion FR-S, will be behind the wheel of the unusual car.

The car was prepared by the Evasive Motorsports team, one of the most respected tuning teams in the United States. The specialists have carried out a large-scale modification of the standard Ioniq 5 N, turning it into a full-fledged track car. First of all, the car was made as light as possible: the entire interior was removed, including trim, seats and multimedia systems. Carbon analogs were installed instead of standard body panels, which saved 227 kg of weight.

The aerodynamic body kit for the car was developed by the Japanese company Voltex. The car was equipped with a massive front splitter, extended fenders, side skirts, a bottom panel and a huge spoiler - all made of carbon fiber. All elements are designed for the most efficient cornering and downforce necessary for high-altitude racing.

Other technical modifications include Krontec pneumatic jacks for quick maintenance, 19-inch Titan racing wheels with Yokohama slick tires, powerful brakes with CSG Spec pads, reinforced anti-roll bars from EVS Tuning, and a professional Moton suspension with adjustable shock absorbers. The interior features only a Sparco carbon racing seat, six-point seat belts, and a protective cage.

Under the hood is a powerful electric installation of two motors, one for each axle. The total output is 650 hp (478 kW), and the maximum torque reaches an impressive 769 Nm. These characteristics allow the car to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.25 seconds and reach a top speed of 161 mph (261 km/h) - impressive figures for a car whose pedigree originates from a civilian crossover.

For Hyundai, participation in Pikes Peak is not just a sporting challenge, but a way to demonstrate the potential of electric technologies in the most extreme conditions. The altitude difference, more than 150 turns and almost 20 kilometers of distance require the utmost precision and reliability from the equipment and the driver.

Rob Walker's participation in this project is also not accidental: the racer has extensive experience in driving lightweight rear-wheel drive cars and has repeatedly stormed difficult US tracks. His task is not only to reach the finish line, but also to show a time that can impress even the most sophisticated motorsport fans.

Hyundai makes it clear that electric cars are not only environmentally friendly and comfortable for everyday use, but also offer unlimited possibilities in sports. And if everything goes according to plan, the Ioniq 5 N could become the new hero of the American "Mountain" and a symbol of the next era of racing technology.
