Full-scale production of the next-generation flagship BMW X7 crossover, codenamed G67, is not scheduled to begin until late 2026, but the German automaker is already actively sharing some details and showcasing its bold ideas in design and technology to the public. Numerous spy photos and officially released sketches give a fairly clear idea of what the future flagship will look like, as the car promises a radical departure from the current styling towards a completely new brand philosophy called Neue Klasse. Visually, the new X7 takes on an even more athletic and monolithic profile with a characteristic high window line and a very long hood that emphasizes the dynamic nature of the model, while the steeply raked windshield only reinforces the overall impression of the car's sweeping silhouette.
The front of the vehicle looks incredibly expressive thanks to the signature kidney grille, which is now even more integrated into the overall composition, as well as the two-level headlight system, where the daytime running lights are located almost at the very edge of the hood, creating a completely unique light signature. The austere and angular front bumper is complemented by a rectangular air intake, and instead of the usual chrome accents, the designers actively use modern reflective elements, which give the crossover a more futuristic and technological look. The side view of the car has been significantly streamlined by replacing traditional door handles with elegant designs that are flush with the body, reminiscent of the Mustang Mach E, while the rear of the body features split doors and sleek, narrow LED lights that visually widen the car.
The interior of the new X7 will apparently be a showcase for cutting-edge digital technology, as its centerpiece will be the latest version of the iDrive multimedia system with a huge display and expanded functionality, complemented by a projection display with 3D graphics on the windshield. The overall atmosphere of premium quality and comfort will be created by high-quality finishing materials and a special background lighting system with extensive customization options, as well as an expanded package of active driver assistance systems, including the intelligent City Assist function, which can recognize traffic lights and other critical objects in an urban environment. The technical basis for the crossover will be the proven CLAR platform, which will be significantly redesigned to accommodate fundamentally new types of powertrains, including fully electric modules.
For the first time in the history of the X7 model, buyers will be offered a completely silent and emission-free version under the iX7 index, whose expected characteristics are already generating enormous interest among the audience. Based on the technical solutions implemented in the iX3 model, it is highly likely that the electric flagship will receive a twin-motor powertrain with a total output of around 463 horsepower, powered by a traction battery with a capacity of at least 110 kilowatt hours, which should provide the car with a competitive range on a single charge. For markets where maximum performance is in demand, BMW engineers are preparing an M70 version with an output of around 800 horsepower, and a more luxurious and powerful version from the Alpina tuning studio is also possible. The main competitors for the new model in the global market for large premium crossovers will be such renowned cars as the Mercedes Benz GLS, Rolls Royce Cullinan, the upcoming Audi Q9, the promising Genesis GV90, and the recently updated Lexus LX, which indicates an extremely high level of competition in this segment.
