As part of its global strategy to become a leader in key markets, the Volkswagen Group continues to develop its ID electric vehicle line with the introduction of a new model called the ID Unyx. This crossover is a logical continuation of the previously announced Cupra Tavascan, but was developed to meet the specific requirements of the Chinese market by engineers at Volkswagen's new innovation and development centre in Hefei. The entire production cycle for the ID Unyx has been set up at a local modern factory specialising in the production of new-generation smart electric vehicles, which allows the German group not only to optimise costs, but also to strengthen its presence in this dynamically developing region.
The exterior of the car is based on the MEB platform, which is common to many of the group's electric vehicles and has already proven itself in the ID.5, Skoda Enyaq Coupe and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback models, but the designers have given the new model a more aggressive and expressive character. In addition to the ID brand's signature style, the model features a unique front bumper with a reduced black insert, its own rear bumper design and original lighting design. The rear of the car, designed in the style of a sports coupé, stands out with its three-dimensional LED lights, complemented by a luminous horizontal strip and an illuminated manufacturer's emblem. Compared to the Cupra Tavascan, the dimensions of the ID Unyx have undergone minor changes due to different bodywork, resulting in an increase in length of 19 millimetres and a decrease in width of 1 millimetre, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2766 millimetres, ensuring a spacious interior.
The interior design of the five-seater cabin combines ergonomics and modern technology, from comfortable anatomical seats with integrated headrests to several trim options, including classic black and white leather. The elegant atmosphere is enhanced by decorative inserts with a gold finish, echoing the exterior décor. The dashboard includes two displays of different sizes, where the trapezoidal screen provides the driver with operational information, and the large 15-inch tablet, located horizontally, allows you to control the multimedia system, secondary functions and access to online services. The number of physical buttons has been kept to a minimum, with only the steering wheel and door panels retaining them, while the centre tunnel separates the driver and front passenger, offering two compartments for wireless smartphone charging, cup holders and a spacious armrest with a large compartment for small items. For lovers of high-quality sound, a premium Harman/Kardon audio system is available, while practicality is enhanced by a 535-litre luggage compartment, which can be significantly increased by folding down the rear seats in a 40/60 split.
The car is available in four trim levels on the Chinese market, starting with the base Pure version, equipped with a 231 horsepower electric motor on the rear axle and a 53.6 kWh LFP battery, which provides a range of 426 kilometres according to the CLTC cycle. The more advanced Pro, Ultra and Max versions get an efficient 80.2 kWh NCM battery, with the rear-wheel drive Pro and Ultra offering a range of up to 614 kilometres, while the top-of-the-range Max version has a second motor on the front axle, providing all-wheel drive and acceleration dynamics of up to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, although the range is reduced to 555 kilometres due to increased energy consumption. The innovative Unyx human-machine interface deserves special attention. It includes an interactive 3D avatar based on artificial intelligence, whose appearance and even voice can be customised individually via a mobile app and synchronised with the car's system. The starting price for the first buyers in China is the equivalent of 873,000 hryvnia, but the standard price is set at 1.1 million hryvnia, and the all-wheel-drive Max configuration will cost at least 1.46 million hryvnia. Although the model was originally created exclusively for the domestic Chinese market, this car is already being actively supplied to other countries, including Ukraine, which indicates the growing popularity and strategic importance of the new model for the concern.
